Through It All
I wrote a poem when I was graduating from college with my bachelor’s degree. The struggle I had to endure to reach my goal to graduate was rough.
I was diagnosed with relapse-remitting multiple sclerosis in 2006. No doubt, I have had my struggles with the disease. But having MS has taught me how strong I really am. I’m a very goal-oriented person, and if I had let the unpredictable days with this diagnosis stop me from achieving, I wouldn’t be true to myself.
From the fatigue to depression, all the different types of mood swings, the aches and pain, and moments of not being able to walk or think straight, I’ve showed MS that I am a warrior. No matter what, I couldn’t allow MS to stop me from reaching my goal.
In the moment I started to write this poem, I thought about the people that told me to give up. Never let someone tell you to give up on the dream that is bound to be realized. It takes true committment at times to prove the doubters wrong.
Through It All
Through it all, I have conquered
Through it all, I have sustained
Through it all, I have held my head up high
Yes I cried
Shed plenty of tears
TODAY… TODAY I have dried my last tears
I have found a NEW place
A place filled with my hopes and dreams
Through it all I have conquered
Fought battles to finish my race
My race against the enemy called FEAR
FEAR has strengthened my FAITH
It is My FAITH in the one who SAVES AND PROTECTS ME
Through it all my FAITH keeps me going
Through it all I found a NEW me
I INSPIRE many to my understanding
Now that I have completed this
My work has just BEGUN!!!!
